Product Description

Hand Rearing Food for Baby Birds.

Formulated to give your birds a flying start. Predigestives and Probotic® in Neocare ensure babies get all the nutrition they need to grow into spectacular hand reared birds. The Probotic® feeds their digestive system with good bacteria, and the predigestives provide good absorption of energy and protein to help kick start their growth. Use it in babies straight from the brooder, or those pulled from the nest for hand rearing.

Neocare follows nature by providing a form of “crop milk”, essential for the well being of incubated babies and is a great help in those you pull from the nest to hand rear.

Recommended for: the species we commonly hand rear including Parrots, Cockatoos, Finches, Canaries, Pigeons and Doves. Suitable for use from hatching through to weaning.

Also Suitable For: All Parrots as a complete hand rearing formula.

Can use with: Neocare should not be used with any other supplement, unless advised by a veterinarian. Neocare is a veterinary balanced food, mixing other foods or supplements will dilute the nutrition and unbalance a young bird’s diet. If hand feeding from hatching, an electrolyte formula should be fed for the first 24+ hrs or until the bird passes its first dropping. Neocare is then fed at a runny consistency and thickened over a period of days.

Ingredients: Isolated Soy Protein, Oats, Corn, Vegetable oil, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamins and minerals, Probotic® & Predigestives.

Feeding: Neocare is a fine powder that is mixed with hot water to give the desired mix. For newly hatched babies make a very dilute mix and give a few drops until the baby passes its first dropping. Then feed as required and slowly increase the thickness of the mix until by day 5 they are getting a mix that will fall through the prongs of a fork.

Neocare should be used as the sole source of hand rearing food until weaning. At weaning introduce the birds to either Maintenance Pellets or South American Mix and soft fruit and vegetables.

Most babies reared on Neocare will readily take to pellets.

Hand Rearing is a difficult process; if your birds fail to thrive seek advice from Vetafarm or other professional source.

If you have chicks in the nest you wish to supplementary feed then simply make up a mix of Neocare and crop feed as required – it will boost those slow babies so they can compete with nest mates for food.

  1. Young Quakers

    Posted by Gnarly1969@bigpond.com on 30th Nov 2011

I started hand rearing my Quakers at 2 weeks leaving 3 of the smallest ones with the parents.
Both of the hand reared ones have already started on soaked seeds and some fruit and veggies on their own.
The two hand reared ones have started to practice their flying already but the three with with the parents haven't left the nest yet.
I'm sure that using the Neocare has given my two a great head start .
Couldn't ask for a better result for a first timer I'll definitely be using this product again.

  2. Boiled or hot water? Fantastic product

Posted by Jess on 19th Jan 2011

    Hi,
I have been using this formula on my 2 week old baby galah. I have noticed a big change in growth in the past week and he is looking fantastic. I just had one question...do you use boiling water when u mix neocare or just hot water? I have been using boiled water and wondered if it is true that boiled water kills all the nutrients in the formula. Thanks for a great product.

Vetafarm answer: Using boiling water is fine and in fact we recommend it. Remember that the temperature of the Neocare and the container you mix in are only around room temperature, so once the boiling water is added you will get an instant drop in temperature from 100 degrees back down to somewhere around 60 degrees, as you mix the formula the temperature decreases even further. The danger of nutrients being affected comes with high levels of heat being applied to the food over long periods of time. The short burst of heat during mixing that quickly decreases is not a problem. Thank you for the feedback on the Galah, we are glad to hear that he/she is getting such a great start to life!

  3. Outstanding product

Posted by Phil on 7th Dec 2010

I have been using Neocare for the past two breeding seasons. This year I compared Neocare with the product I had been using for years and the difference in growth rates was quite amazing. Chicks raised on Neocare gained weight and grew at least five percent faster than chicks raised on the other product. With the added advantage of not needing to "spike" Neocare with yoghurt, vitamins and calcium, feeding is time more enjoyable and worry free.
